18.09.2016 - 18.09.2016
The day has finally arrived and we are on our way. All electrical outlets switched off and unplugged and a final breakfast. Nat is here at 07:00 to ferry us to the airport. Our luggage is checked through to Heathrow and hopefully we will see it again there. The security check was almost painless but I was singled out for an explosives check and Jenny had her toothpaste confiscated. As always we are there well before flight time and fill in three hours reading and people watching.
A quick dash to Sydney aboard the Virgin Australia ATR 72-500/600, a very cosy little aircraft and very helpful staff. Arrival in Sydney is marred by rain and the need to walk across the tarmac but ground staff provided Jenny with an umbrella and assistance up the stairs. Across the airport on the bus to the International Terminal. Another Security Check and we exit through Immigration for the long hike to Gate 61 at the far end of the terminal.
Boarding commenced somewhat latter than expected but was quite efficient and we were seated in time for the scheduled departure at 13:00 local time. That doesn't always happen. The Singapore Air A330 was almost solidly packed but despite that, we were assisted with our carry-on luggage. Throughout the flight the staff maintained their genuinely warm smiles and even remembered our preferred beverage on their frequent trips through the cabin. The flight was generally smooth with only a few occasions when the aircraft bucked a little.
We landed at Changi Airport at 19:30 Singapore time, a flight time of 8 hours 30 minutes. With no baggage to collect we made our way though the vast spaces of Terminal 3. We eventually found our Transit Hotel on Level 3 where we gratefully checked in for 12 hours and found our room which was larger than expected and very well appointed. Despite a curtain along the 'outside' wall there are no windows. The complementary toiletries were extensive for such a short stay.
There is free WiFi but I am unable to access the code because my phone is not served by a roaming SIM. I will post this from London.
There were no photos today, perhaps tomorrow ??
Wishing you good health and safe travel.
Have a great day and stay well.
Cheers .. Tony
