Almost down to the wire and it is heartening to be able to report that all essential preparations are completed. With all the health checks completed it is now largely a matter of sitting around waiting for time to pass.
Jenny has taken a giant technological leap having worn out her old Apple iPad she is now cutting her teeth on Windows 10. It is early days but she quite likes her Samsung Galaxy TabPRO S an incredibly thin tablet/laptop. It has taken an effort to transfer much of her Apple oriented functionality to a Windows 10 environment. Given her reluctance to have anything to do with the technology not that long ago she's taken to this with enthusiasm.
Life for our mate Bert hasn't been a bed of roses. He's spent most of the past four months in hospital, lurching from one crisis to another. We are part of a small team that visits him two or three times a week to help him eat his meals. It is depressing to watch him slowly deteriorate. We are faced with the likelihood that he won't be here when we return from this trip. On the other hand, he's managed so amazing recoveries in the past.
We're keeping an eye on the weather in Southampton to help guide us to appropriate clothing. Just as Spring here is proving to be somewhat erratic it is difficult to get a feel for the UK Autumn. We're expecting mild temperatures but lots of rain. Even if we get it wrong there's always a shop that will accept a credit card to get us out of trouble.
I was amazed recently when I rang the bank to inform them of our travel plans. There was the usual verification process to get to speak to the human who then asked a few more confirmatory questions. At the end of our chat she asked if I'd be interested in using Voice Recognition for validation. You bet I am !! So now they have my Voice Signature and there will be fewer questions on the way in. That's the promise anyway.
Father's Day tomorrow here in Australia. Nothing significant planned but there may well be a surprise visit from Natalie and family.
Will send out the regular email tomorrow to my long-suffering 'friends' who continue to be curios about our cruise adventures.
